Pros And Cons Of Living On-Campus And Off-Campus

College life can offer you two options: living on campus and off campus. Both variants have their advantages and disadvantages that can direct you either way. Your final decision depends on your own personality that is why you need to analyze everything wisely. Here are some helpful tips for you to choose what you need and what will be better for you.

Pros and Cons of Living On-Campus

ADVANTAGES

The biggest accessibility for choosing on-campus living is close distance to college. You can easily visit everything that is located on the premises of the college: cafes, computer laboratories, libraries and other leisure establishments. Moreover, living on-campus means living close to your groupmates and friends. The dormitory allows you to do home assignments together, which will make your life easier. Hanging out is also fun when you do not need to waste so much time commuting home. Finally, you should not care about the rent, bills and shopping for food. Also, there is a canteen in the majority of colleges, so unless you get fun from cooking, you can easily eat there.

DISADVANTAGES

You are most of the time living with other students that means not much privacy for you. A shared bathroom, bedroom and kitchen may become a problem for a person who is not used to having common utilities. Moreover, tiny rooms mean no ability to store everything that you may want, as your roommates are also in there and want to bring their stuff. After that, active social life can be harmful for your college studying. Constant hanging out can influence your rating in a negative way, that is why you should consider this as well.

Pros and Cons of Living Off-Campus

ADVANTAGES

The most significant point of living off-campus is actually the absence of any rules. You can come and leave whenever you want, do with your room whatever you want and anything that you are willing to do. A complete freedom! Moreover, there is nobody to bother you, as your room is no one else’s room. The privacy that you own is something special that allows you to feel comfortable and peaceful. Off-campus living will teach you to be more responsible, as here you have to take care of your bills, renting expenses and manage your money for food. The more duties – the more responsibility.

DISADVANTAGES

If you are a student with a limited budget, perhaps this is not an option for you. Usually, you do not have a possibility to pay for off-campus living, but if your parents can provide you with such a possibility, then it is the best variant for you. On the other hand, commuting will take a lot of your time, unless you are living directly near the college. Apart from bad transportation conditions, you should be prepared to the thing that most students are afraid of – loneliness. Being far from college means being away from your friends that automatically makes studying less exciting.
