Must-Know Study Tips for College Students

Raise your hand, if your high-school system of studying didn’t work when you started college. Don’t get desperate, you’re not alone. Many freshmen face problems during the first few weeks in college, realizing the bitter price of independence. No one holds your hand to help you succeed. Now, it’s completely your responsibility to remember about deadlines, important dates, taking proper notes, etc. Moreover, no one cares about your circumstances and excuses. Professors have certain expectations and if you do not keep up, you will fail. How not to die and survive this rough path? There are some must-know college tips to get through the difficulties.

How to study effectively

Actually, it’s all about organization. If you know how to organize your study, you will succeed. So, here’re some study strategies for you:

  • Organize your study spot

Keep your desk clean all the time. Find a whiteboard to arrange your weekly goals and put vital information in front of your eyes. Write down every task you hear in college, even a small and silly one, and bring it to your study spot.

  • Memorize while writing

It’s popular to take notes on a laptop because some people find it quicker and easier. Yet, it is better to write down the complicated material by hand. You’ll see how it works once you try.

  • Create flashcards

It is one of the college study skills to prepare for tests, which you’ll love. When you get through your notes, mark the most important information, make a summary and write down a short conclusion. In such a way, you study while creating flashcards and it’s easier to memorize the material. If you have flash cards long before the final week, you don’t have to spend sleepless nights studying everything.

  • Daily study is the key to success

Yes, it sounds awful. When it comes to practice it seems even worth. However, during the exam week, it appears priceless. How does it work? On the days when you don’t have classes, spend at least 4-5 hours studying the material. Try to spend 10 minutes before each session revising your notes from the previous lecture. Don’t give yourself an excuse and you’ll see that proper notes may sometimes work for you better than a book.

  • Take it easy

That is as important as to study hard. The balance hides in time organization and in a reward system. After a completed goal, give yourself a reward. After a certain amount of time you have spent studying, have a break. If you study on a regular base, you don’t go crazy before exams. Reduce stress and you’ll end up with a successful result.

  • Take a copy of a syllabus

Seriously, after the first week, you usually forget about its existence. It’s a huge mistake. There must be some vital information that will save your nerves, grades and time. Make sure you have it in front of your eyes during the whole semester.

Good Luck!
