Freshman Year in College
Now I recall with a smile how it was to be a freshman in college. Well, a rather challenging experience, I must say. Everything is new: studying, roommates, classmates, partying – the list can endlessly go on. Therefore, to ease your life a little bit, I have prepared for you a so-called freshman survival kit. So, what is there ahead of you:
- Dorm life…what can I say? Get used to it! Learn how to live with your roommate and respect his/her viewpoints, feelings, studying and sleeping schedule, and personal space. React normally to any arguments that you might have – it’s perfectly ok – that’s how people get along with each other. In case you are burning the midnight oil again and you don’t want to wake all your neighbors, take everything you need ‒ such as snacks, coffee, and other stuff ‒ with you. If you want others to respect your intimate life, learn to respect that of others. Always, remember always decide together with your roommates on what you need to buy. You will hardly ever need two coffee machines or microwaves. Never lose your dorm key! And never drink or smoke in your room. However, don’t live your life in constant fear – you may drink if you want to, but be considerate.
- Be open to college social life – spend more time communicating with other freshmen. Try to make some new friends. However, be careful who you are going out with and learn how to distinguish truth from rumors. It is completely not necessary for you to tell everyone about your religious beliefs or political viewpoint. Avoid such controversies when possible. Think about what you would like to be engaged in apart from studying and then join some club of your interests. Be firm in your life position. Do not be easily susceptible to the possible negative influence of your friends and acquaintances.
- Studying tips: whenever you have some problems with studying, don’t be shy and ask someone to help you. In particular, you may use tutoring services. Besides, you may always address your professor in his/her office hours.
- Stay healthy and fit. Pay attention to what you eat do not eat too much fast food. Be attentive to your hygiene and health. Try enrolling on some sports club or go to the gym.
The abovementioned are just the most important tips a freshman may need in the first days of college. With time, you will learn a lot more important things that will add up to your experience. Make the most out of your college years. Stay cool!
